Semi autonomy spurs driver vigilance concerns

Ability of motorists to safely take back manual control of a semi-autonomous vehicle operating in self driving mode in future has been called into question by road safety specialists. Graham Hole of the University of Sussex said there are "huge problems" with these vehicles at levels two and three on the autonomy scale, "where you are basically reducing the driver to a task of vigilance" in case they need to take over the driving task. "That is something we are not very good at doing."
