Time for a fresh look at road pricing

Now is the best time to think seriously about introducing a national 'pay as you go' road user charging scheme in light of Covid's impacts on travel, growing climate change awareness and falling fuel duty revenue, a CIHT webinar heard in November. Arup associate Adriana Moreno told the session - which was chaired by CIHT Vice President Neil Johnstone as part of a Future of Funding series - that these factors point to the need for road pricing, especially after the Government brought forward the deadline for ending sales of new petrol and diesel cars to 2030.
