Metalworking fluids: Update on boundary lubricity additives

Efforts continue to improve the characteristics of this multifunctional additive. The challenges facing metalworking fluid (MWF) formulators usually focus on such issues as minimizing microbial contamination, eliminating foam and having products that can operate under harsh operating conditions, particularly with high levels of water hardness. But MWFs need to contain the proper types of lubricity components to fulfill their main function of reducing friction and wear.
