EPA release revised draft risk evaluation for Pigment Violet 29

On the basis of test orders and data voluntarily supplied by the sole manufacturer in the US, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has released a revised draft risk evaluation for C.I. Pigment Violet 29 (PV29) for public comment and peer review. The new data prompted the EPA to change its analytical approach for assessing the potential exposure and health effects of PV29 and as a consequence the revised draft risk evaluation now considers the chemical is an unreasonable risk to workers for 11 out of the 14 conditions of its use. Leading applications of PV29 include use as an intermediate to create or adjust the colour of other perylene pigments, incorporation in paints and coatings primarily used in the automotive industry, in merchant inks for commercial printing and in consumer watercolours and artistic colours.
