A number of Ni-Cu-Co magmatic sulphide deposits and occurrences are reported across southeast Sweden. This mineralisation is associated with Paleoproterozoic gabbro-diortie intrusives, referred to here as the Smaland Mafic Suite (SMS). The SMS intrusions are interpreted to have formed in an active Andean-type continental margin setting and are thought to be associated with the extensive Trans-Scandinavian Igneous Belt granites (TIB) (Gorbatschev 2007). Despite the well-documented mineralisation, the SMS is historically underexplored for magmatic sulphides, most likely due to the atypical convergent setting.In the Vetlanda region, 280 km SW of Stockholm, multiple intrusions have been identified as prospective for magmatic sulphide mineralisation, as demonstrated by the historic Kleva and Virserum mine workings.
