Magmatic arc evolution culminating in porphyry copper formation at Rio Bianco-Los Bronces

Giant porphyry deposits along the Andean margin typically form late within an arc segments magmatic evolution. The giant porphyry deposit cluster at Rio Bianco-Los Bronces in Central Chile is such an example having formed towards the end of >20 Myr of recorded magmatic activity within the district. Several km-thick sequences of the Oligocene to Miocene volcano-sedimentary Abanico and Farellones Formations host Miocene intrusive rocks of the San Francisco Intrusive Complex and the Late Miocene to Early Pliocene Cu deposits.
