摘要

Bone marrow edema (BME) is a common incidental finding on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in athletes. Etiology and composition are not well understood, it has been linked to long-term adverse events, such as osteoarthritis. The purpose of this study was to evaluate subjects with BME using research-grade MRI to identify the composition of the edema and thus improve patient implications and care plans. Knees with BME had a higher fat fraction than negative knees (P = 0.058). The effect size was large (d =1.30). This study is the first to describe comparative fat fraction of BME lesions in knees of female athletes. (c) 2020 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
