Pachyrhinus lethierryi (Desbrochers des Loges) (Curculionidae) discovered in west Cumbria

On 7 June 2020 in my kitchen in Hensingham, Cumbria (NX986168) I noticed a weevil on the inside wall near the back door. It was a male Pachyrhinus lethierryi (Desbrochers des Loges). This species was discovered for the first time in Britain in 2003 when several specimens were collected from Lawson's cypress Chamaecyparis leylandii at Bishops Stortford, Hertfordshire (Plant, Morris & Heal, 2006). Since P. lethierryi was first recorded in Britain it has spread rapidly and it has now been recorded from several localities in England and also one record from North Wales (NBN Atlas, 2020). This discovery of P. lethierryi from west Cumbria constitutes a new record for the county and would appear to be the first for VC 70 Cumberland.
