Scybalicus oblongiusculus (Dejean) (Carabidae) still extant on Portland

Since its first discovery in the UK in 1878, Scybalicus oblongiusculus (Dejean) has been a speciality of the Portland/ Weymouth area and a few coastal localities to the east of Weymouth in Dorset, with the last apparent Dorset record of the species being from near Portland Bill as long ago as 1951. Telfer (2016) summarised the history of the species in the UK, indicating that all the recent records of the species have been restricted to newly discovered sites in Kent and Essex from 2000 onwards, with an apparently accidentally imported female specimen being recorded from Kew Gardens, Surrey, in 1998 (Allen, 1999).
