Ernobius gallicus Johnson (Ptinidae) in Kent

On 28 June 2017 I beat five males and several putative females of Ernobius gallicus Johnson, along with numerous E. mollis (Linnaeus) from a black pine Pinus nigra growing at the edge of the covered water reservoir in Greenwich Park, West Kent VC 16 (TQ389770). This species was previously known from a male found by Tony Allen at Brooklands, Surrey in 2013 (Allen, 2013) and other collectors have found it at this locality. The males are distinctive with a dark brown head and thorax contrasting with the rufous elytra. In contrast the female is all rufous, but both sexes have a pale yellowish mark at the tips of the elytra which extends forward to a point along the elytral suture. Both sexes were still present on 10 July.
