The European market for glass fibre reinforced plastics (GRP) continued to grow in 2016. The quantity processed over the year as a whole is estimated by the Federation of Reinforced Plastics (AVK, Frankfurt / Germany; www.avk-tv.de) to be almost 1.1m t, an increase of 2.5 %. Germany and the Scandinavian countries reported the strongest growth, at 3.8 % and 3.6 % respectively. Several southern European states, which were also hit by the economic crisis, have recently shown positive trends again, AVK managing director Elmar Witten told the press in Diisseldorf / Germany late last year. As was true in the past, in 2016, H2, which is traditionally somewhat weaker, fell short of expectations as well.
