'Hot topics' from the 2019 CISA iron ore conference

Before the Chinese iron ore market went on its National Day week-long holiday at the start of October, much of the industry gathered in the city of Qingdao in eastern China's Shandong province for the 19th China International Steel & Raw Materials Conference hosted by the China Iron & Steel Association. S&P Global Platts was also in attendance and held in-depth discussions with around a dozen attendees, which included iron ore producers, steel mills and trading houses. Much of the discussion centered upon the pellet and lump situation, iron ore brand performance, steel mill margins, and the market beyond the Chinese Golden Week (October 1-7) holidays.
