Iron ore brand price comparison: IOCJ blended with SSF gains favor with Chinese steelmakers

S&P Global Platts' iron ore brand assessments show that Rio Tinto's key Pilbara Blend fines product sold on a floating price basis was the highest among five brands assessed since early August. The PB fines floating price was $1.35/ dmt higher than BHP's Newman High Grade fines (NHGF) and $2.75/dmt higher than Vale's Brazilian Blend fines (BRBF) in early September. The price gap between PB fines and BRBF has subsequently narrowed as PB supply pressure eased and was only $0.3/ dmt higher than BRBF as of October 8.
