Mysore was unique among planting regions of India. It alone enjoyed an established planting enterprise, amidst a long settled population prior to the arrival of European planters in 1840s and 1850s. In fact, by the time European planters began to acquire land in the 1840s, the small but lucrative coffee planting enterprise had already attracted the Government's attention.
