Ghana aims to capitalise on a maritime boundary ruling in its favour by increasing production from its main oil and natural gas felds and attracting upstream investment through its frst licensing round. The frst round will comprise six blocks in the oil-producing ofshore Western basin. Firms will be invited to bid between November and December, with licences awarded by the end of July 2019. Energy ministry ofcials have already sounded out companies including BP, Shell, Chevron and Chinese state-owned oil frm CNPC. The round follows the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea’s ruling over a border dispute between Ghana and Ivory Coast last year.
