A global energy transition will rely in part on the oil majors thriving in a decar- bonised world through a transformation that investors want to buy. But the jury is still out on the success of this business strategy because there is a bigger ques- tion that policy makers and societies have yet to answer, or even clearly formu- late. Who pays for the energy transition?
