Baku advances gas expansion plans

The second-phase development of Azerbaijan's offshore Shakh Deniz project will begin producing natural gas in the second half of 2018, operator BP says. Output will reach its 16bn m~3/yr plateau by 2022, according to Azeri stateowned energy company Socar. The $28bn project is 93pc complete, BP southern corridor vice-president Joe Murphy told the Caspian Oil and Gas conference in Baku on 1 June. And 12 of the 26 production wells required for the second phase are already in place, Socar's vice-president for geology and geophysics, Bahram Huseynov, says.
