摘要

Many BOF shops employ conservative, lower productivity blowing practices in an attempt to mitigate the yield loss, clean-up delays and fugitive emission problems associated with slopping. To date, Tenova Goodfellow has commercialized 10 highly reliable, patented i BOF~R slop detection systems worldwide. The technology continuously monitors lance vibration to provide a 20-40 second advance warning of the onset of a slop and when combined with an automated lance control system, it dynamically adjusts lance conditions to first avoid the onset of the slop and second, to quickly and automatically return to normal blowing conditions once the threat of the slop has ended. This paper describes the slop detection technology and outlines the significant benefits of slop mitigation including raw materials savings, reduced delays from maintenance & pit cleaning, higher average blowing rates, increased yield and reduced fugitive emissions.
