NOTE ON THE BREEDING BEHAVIOUR OF PUNTIUS SOPHORE (HAM) IN SOME STREAMS OF BOON VALLEY, UTTARAKHAND, INDIA

摘要

There are about 24 species of fishes belonging to the family Cyprinidae. Puntius sophore (Ham.) is one of them which is gregarious in nature and lives in association with Puntius ticto (Ham.) in the stagnant water of the streams namely, Song, Reh, Suswa and Tons rivers of Boon valley. Hora and Mukherjee (1936), Lai and Chaterjee (1962), Grover et al. (1994), and Uniyal et al (2002) have provided the systematic list of some of the fishes. Whereas, the biological studies remained neglected except for the work of Grover (1971) on Barilius bendelisis, Rauthan et al. (2001) on Barilius vagra vagra and Rauthan et al. (2005) on Barilius bola.
