摘要

Reactive oxygen species (ROS) have been considered to be responsible for the ageing and initiation of neoplastic processes. Hydrogen peroxide, which is generated during oxidative stress, is known to damage proteins, nucleic acids and cell membranes and also has been implicated in cancer, ageing and several chronic neurogenerative diseases. We investigated the protective effect of genistein against genotoxic dose of hydrogen peroxide using sister chromatid exchanges (SCEs). The treatment with H2O2 (15 and 20 mu M) was showing significant increase in the frequency of SCEs. The combination of H2O2 with Genistein (2.5 and 5 mu g/ml) was found significantly associated with decrease frequency of SCEs on cultured human lymphocytes. The results of the present study suggest a protective effect of Genistein against hydrogen peroxide induced genotoxic damage on cultured human lymphocytes.
