An evaluation study of training of rural youths for self-employment scheme.

This study was conducted to: (i) determine the profile of beneficiaries of the Training of Rural Youth for Self-Employment (TRYSEM) Scheme; and (ii) estimate the monetary gain of the beneficiaries under the scheme. Data were gathered from 105 respondents who received training in different trades under TRYSEM scheme in Damoh District, Madhya Pradesh, India. The majority of small farmers were from low socioeconomic states, belonging to SC and ST groups, with low education level and received training in tailoring, electrical and luhargiri. Most (39.45%) of the beneficiaries earned Rs. 7000-15 000 annually. It is suggested that most rural youth prefer training in trades related to their castes, thus they must be encouraged to adopt other trades and not only traditional caste trades.
