摘要

The genetic variability for 18 yield and quality traits was studied in 35 diverse genotypes of horsegram (Macrotyloma uniflorum) in Palampur, Himachal Pradesh, India, during kharif 2003. Both phenotypic and genotypic coefficients of variation were high for crop growth rate and seed yield per plant. Hence, direct selection of these traits will prove effective. The phenotypic coefficient of variation for pods per plant and harvest index was high, whereas the genotypic coefficient of variation for these traits was moderate. High heritability coupled with high genetic advance for leaf area index (70 days after sowing) and crop growth rate indicated the influence of additive gene action and consequently a likelihood of high genetic gain from phenotypic selection.
