Twenty-four bacterial isolates were obtained from pesticide contaminated soils of cotton, sugarcane, brinjal and okra fields of HAU farm by enrichment culture technique. Resistance among these isolates was studied on pesticides, namely, endosulfan, quinalphos, confidor and trizophos. The results indicated that property of pesticide resistance was high among bacterial isolates. Resistance was also observed when pesticide (endosulfan) was used as a sole carbon source in basal minimal nitrogen (BMN) agar medium although it was quite less when added alongwith reduced concentration of carbon source. Viable count of two bacterial isolates S3 and S5 obtained from sugarcane field increased in BMN medium (incorporated with different concentrations of pesticide) on incubation under shake culture conditions. Results indicated that above isolates might be using pesticide as a carbon and energy source.
