Diversity, distribution and bio-prospecting of medicinal and aromatic plants of Himachal Pradesh

The State of Himachal Pradesh is endowed with highly diverse ecological conditions in the lap of North-western Himalayas. The four ecological zones have a vast potential of hosting a wide variety of medicinal and aromatic plant species. Three hundredmedicinal and aromatic plants have been listed to exist in these four zones. In the absence of right policies and planning for conservation of these plant species, a large number of these species are becoming threatened or even have become extinct. Thecultivation and bio-prospecting of medicinal and aromatic plants are good options to improve economy of people and provide quality drugs to meet growing health problems in the years to come.
