MICROPROPAGATION OF WALNUT (JUGLANS REGIA L) TREES

摘要

In vitro cultures are now being used as tools for the study of various basic problems in plant sciences. It is now possible to propagate all plants of economic importance in large numbers through tissue culture. During the last several years, different approaches have been made for in vitro propagation of walnut. New challenges for refinements of protocols for high rate of shoot multiplication and development of cost effective methods has gained importance in the recent past. Importance of liquid andsolid culture for callus induction, embryogenesis, shoot proliferation and root induction for walnut is also considered for micropropogation. Further, the development of protocols for in vitro propagation, culture nodal segment from seedling, somatic embryogenesis and plant regeneration which is considered the most important step for successful implementation of various biotechnological technique used for plant improvement. In walnut, there are several reports which indicate rapid regeneration and multiplication through organogenesis or somatic embryogenesis. Plant tissue culture technique has many advantages; In vitro over conventional vegetative propagation and the most important one is the propagation of a great number of pathogen-free plants in ashort time with high uniformity.
