AbstractSamples of standard TLD-500 detectors on the basis of anion-defective corundum (α-Al2O3-δ) were found to emit gamma radiation when irradiated with 5.7?MeV protons. The objective of this study was to identify the nature of the induced radioactivity assuming the18O (p, n)18F reaction as highly probable and to study the prospects for its new practical applications.Highlights?Proton irradiation induces radioactivity in TLD-500.?Induced radioactivity in TLD-500 allows proton fluence measurement.?TLD-500 detectors allow the production of18F-based pharmaceuticals to be monitored.]]>
