While supply has seen numerous small hitches over the start of 2019, the largest individual event was the bout of heavy flooding in Australia's northern Queensland. Heavy rains, particularly around the Townsville port, closed transport operations and let to heavy erosion around railway lines, and the derailment of at least one metals train. Rail deliveries are hoped to resume at the port before the end of March, but 40% of the country's zinc exports are currently affected, with many larger miners like Glencore and South 32 opting to pay for more-expensive trucking haulage, rather than weather a full month of shipping delays.
