In 2018, global finished zinc apparent demand is expected to rise by 3.2% to 14.4Mt, up from 1.1% growth in 2017. Theprimary driver for the increase will be higher demand for galvanised steel for use in the automotive and constructionsectors, most notably in China. China’s 2018 apparent zinc demand is forecast to rise by 3.5% to 6.95Mt spurred on byinfrastructure spending. By 2019, global demand will reach 14.9Mt, 2.9% higher than 2018, as emerging markets such asIndia and Pakistan commission new galvanising lines.
