Chinese smelters continue to increase output in the face of muted demand for zinc from the manufacturing sector, as the trade war continues to dampen industrial activity, particularly in China. In August, the Accumulated Floor Space of Commercialized Buildings Sold registered a 0.6% year-on-year decline, indicating weaker end-use demand from the construction industry amid slower economic growth caused by the trade conflict. With supply growth outpacing demand, AME expects the excessive supply to eventually be reflected as rising domestic zinc inventories.
