摘要

Boliden's polymetallic Garpenberg mine is Sweden's oldest mine still in operation. The mine has a particularly low cash cost in part due to the significant silver and gold by-products, a low mining cost per tonne due to high automation and high safety standards. The operation has a strong community relationship, especially after the 2014 expansion which linked two underground areas, reducing community interactions. The expansion also decreased mining costs. Boliden is expanding the throughput of Garpenberg to 3.0Mtpa at a cost of SEK60m (US$7m). The expansion is expected to be complete in 2019. The project will help counteract the decline in zinc head grades, which over the next few years are expected to decline below 4%. AME expects Garpenberg to be producing beyond 2040.
