Galvanising demand, zinc's major primary usage, has been the key to driving zinc demand, benefiting from the China's automotive and infrastructure projects as well as strong exports of home appliances. China largely dominates the global market, accounting for 45.4% of demand. In September, Chinese zinc ore and concentrate imports were at 129.9kt, down from 195kt in August. The country introduced 87 supportive automotive policies in December, which is expected to raise vehicle – and thus zinc – demand. This includes incentives such as subsidies and tax exemptions for NEVs (new electric vehicles) until 2022. Further, there were cash subsidy to car buys up to US$1,400 per vehicle.
