Interrelationships among central insulin signalling, diabetes, and cognitive impairment

Type 2 diabetes and dementia are both very prevalent diseases. Prevalence of type 2 diabetes starts increasing in people from as young as 20 years, whereas the prevalence of dementia begins increasing in those aged around 70 years of age. Evidence from neuropathological, clinical, and epidemiological studies indicate that people with type 2 diabetes have an increased risk of developing dementia, depression, and stroke.1
