How much time do nurses spend using electronic devices at work? Results of the Patient Care and Tracking Increasing Electronics in Nurses' Use of lime (PATIENT) study

Nursing practice has evolved as technology becomes more prevalent in healthcare. Although electronic devices, such as programmable infusion pumps, personal or work smartphones to text clinicians and receive nursing alerts, barcode scanners for bedside medication administration and patient identification, and bedside computers for documenting while interacting with patients, are increasingly being used, limited data are available to assess the collective impact of technology on the amount of time nurses spend on patient care activities.
