摘要

The use of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) has been implicated in the development of acute kidney injury (AKI) and chronic kidney disease (CKD). Evidence in the literature indicates that over-prescribing of PPIs places patients at risk of adverse kidney outcomes. This review explored 11 research studies to analyze the association between PPI use and adverse kidney outcomes and to identify the prescribing patterns for PPIs. Substantial evidence indicates that PPI use is linked to kidney dysfunction and provides evidence that the proper prescription of PPIs is essential. Providers (physicians, nurse practitioners, physician's assistants), nurses, and patients should be educated on proper PPI use in hopes of decreasing adverse kidney outcomes.
