Green belt quarry proposal refused

Hertfordshire County Council has refused consent for extraction of 1.75 million tonnes of sand and gravel over ten years from a site within the green belt to the north of Hertford. The council concluded that the proposed development would have a detrimental impact on the landscape and that the screen bunds, stockpiles and plant would not preserve the openness of the green belt. In addition, there would be a detrimental impact on public footpaths and the proposed access was not acceptable in highway safety terms.
