Argyle Diamond Mine to Close

A recent announcement in Mining Magazine (January 17, 2020) indicated that Rio Tinto has confirmed that its iconic Argyle diamond mine in Western Australia's Kimberley region will close at the end of this year. Known as the fourth-largest diamond producer in the world by volume, Argyle is probably best known for producing colored diamonds. It is the only significant source of pink and red diamonds, producing over 90% of the world's supply. In addition, it provides a large proportion of other naturally colored diamonds, including champagne, cognac and rare blue diamonds.
