EVALUATION OF INSECTICIDES FOR CONTROL OF FLAX FLEA BEETLE IN LINSEED

The flax flea beetles Longitarsusparvulus and Apntnona eupnorbiae were present in low, but increasing numbers in linseed crops in the late 1980's. It was hypothesised that the number of flea beetles would rise to damaging levels as the area of Unseeddrilled increased (1,2). In 1994 widespread direct feeding damage by flea beetles to linseed seedlings was observed for the first time. There are no insecticides on the UK market which hold approval for use on linseed and therefore in 1994 a field experiment was carried out to evaluate off-label uses of insecticides for flea beetle control.
