Authors' response to is angioedema a class side-effect of the angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors?

Drs Karagiannis, Tziomalos, and Athyros describe a patient who developed severe upper airway angioedema that necessitated an emergency tracheostomy.1-2 The patient had been treated with ramipril for the previous 3 years. After recovery, another physician administered trandolapril, and within 2 days, angioedema recurred. In our article,3 as noted in Table 1, 4 patients had experienced episodes of angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor (ACEI)-associated angioedema before presentation to the hospital, In fact, 2 patients had reported 2 prior episodes of angioedema, and 2 patients had experienced a single episode before presentation.
