Although LME stock activity is very quiet and the headline total has been stuck at around the 620,000-tonne level since the end of May, a broader look at exchange stocks starts to paint a more encouraging picture. LME and SHFE stocks combined now total 854,118 tonnes, down from a peak of 915,434 tonnes on May 27 following 13 consecutive down-weeks in the last 12, during which time the average weekly decline has been 4,717 tonnes. This trend is encouraging, and is all the more so because it has come at a time of the year when stocks tend to rise.
