Graham Hoare (1935-2021)

Graham Thomas Quiller Hoare was born in Okehampton, Devon on 22 December 1935. He studied mathematics at Imperial College London, and then trained as a teacher at the Institute for Education, London. He was a maths teacher at Dr Challoner's Grammar School for boys in Amersham, Buckinghamshire from 1966, as head of maths and subsequently a spell as deputy head of school,retiring in 1998. Graham was a Fellow of the IMA, who made valued contributions to Mathematics Today over many years. Readers will probably remember Graham as our Letters Editor for 20 years. He also wrote often and in a variety of ways, including replies to letters, book reviews, an editorial and articles on masterclasses, codebreaking and logic - to name but a few.
