摘要

Most people have heard about the butterfly effect - this is the idea that the small flap of a butterfly's wings could lead to a chain of events which would make an impact on the other side of the world. In our own lives we can all think of small seemingly insignificant moments which then cause a big change of direction for us. What most people don't realise is that mathematician and meteorologist Edward Lorenz came up with the phrase 'butterfly effect'. Lorenz is the founder of a branch of mathematics called Chaos Theory, and the weather is an example of a chaotic system.
