Early Knowledge Exchange

The October 2020 special edition of Mathematics Today on Knowledge Exchange reminded me of early work by the North East Polytechnics (Newcastle, Sunderland and Teesside). Together with local industries such as ICI, British Steel and NEI Parsons they founded a group called POLYMODEL which organised a number of conferences in the late 1970s and 1980s on mathematical modelling. A Google search still shows references to two of them in 1983 and 1986 [1,2].
