Ombuin (7,4'-dimethyl quercetin) (10 鎔/ml, for 12 weeks), glycyrrhizin/quercetin (80 鎔/ml and 10 鎔/ml, respectively, for 18 weeks), ribavirin (10 鎔/ml, for 12 weeks) and quercetin/ribavirin (10 鎔/ml each, for 9-12 weeks) reduced the titre of apple stem grooving capillovirus (ASGV) when applied in vitro to infected tissue cultures of Nicotiana occidentalis subsp. obliqua or apple. ASGV was not detected in either species after the quercitin/ribavirin treatment when tested by immunoSEM, herbaceous host indexing, reverse transcriptase (RT)-PCR or immunocapture RT-PCR. A sensitive immunocapture RT-PCR procedure for the detection of ASGV was developed for the screening of treated samples to assess antiviral activity.
