The tulobuterol patch formulation is composed of tulobuterol, a beta_2-adrenoceptor agonist. It is a transdermally absorbed, long-acting bronchodilator that was originally developed in Japan. In recent years, it has been widely used for the long-term management of asthma in Japan. The tulobuterol patch is 32.0-mm square and contains 2 mg of tulobuterol. Tulobuterol is dispersed uniformly at a concentration of 0.2 mg/cm~2 on a 20-mum-thick adhesive layer with the aid of a crystal reservoir system, which enables sustained release of tulobuterol into the patient's skin. The patch can be attached to the chest, back, or forearm and is applied once daily.
