MARINE Harvest Scotland has plans to construct a post-smolt plant, probably on Skye, once its feed factory has been built. The facility, which is said to be in its scoping stage, would be supplied from the company's state of the art hatcheries at Lochailort and Inchmore, the latter still under construction and due to be operational early next year.Marine Harvest Scotland's freshwater manager John Richmond described the practical considerations in creating large scale recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS), having overseen the new Lochailort hatchery and now supervising the Inchmore development.Lochailort has produced 2,500 tonnes of salmon parr and smolts to date and Inchmore will be on a similar scale.
