Sex-related differences in health care utilization have been demonstrated for many diseases, including asthma. For example, women with asthma are more likely to be hospitalized than men and are also more likely to present to the emergency department (ED) than men. Although an article had raised the possibility that the Canadian population might not reflect these differences, Baibergenova and colleagues5 have recently confirmed that women with asthma presenting to the ED indeed use more health care services than men.
