Investigating the impact of fertility treatment on child health: the struggle is real!

The number of births conceived with the use of assisted reproductive technologies (ART) and other fertility treatments continues to rise worldwide. Surveillance of long-term outcomes of fertility treatments, including the health of children conceived with the use of these technologies, remains of interest both as a matter of public health and to couples considering the use of these technologies. Although the literature has mainly focused on ART, defined as techniques involving both sperm and eggs being handled outside of the body, the proportion of children conceived with the use of ovulation stimulation treatments alone (ranging from drugs to injections) is estimated to be far greater and remains understudied. A lack of long-term data, particularly in the United States, has been a hindrance.
