Roland Schmelzer has been farming on the Darling Downs, Queensland, for about 40 years but he reckons the biggest breakthrough he's seen is the autonomous robot that's been running around his paddocks for the past nine months."It's fitted with a Weed-It 2 optical sprayer," Roland said. "We send it out and it will spray for 24 hours a day if the weather is right. It's got its own weather station and turns itself off if it's too wet, too humid, or too windy."Roland's robot is a SwarmBot, produced by Queensland company SwarmFarm Robotics. It packs a 56kW (75hp) diesel engine and can carry enough fuel for about 20 hours of operation.
