Interleukin-10 (IL-10), a potent anti-inflammatory cytokine, is released by human mast cells, monocytes, and activated T cells of patients with urticaria. Aspirin-induced urticaria (AIU) develops after aspirin ingestion and generally comprises acute and chronic types. Aspirin aggravates chronic urticaria in 20% to 40% of patients. Genetic evidence has indicated an association between the IL-10 gene and cutaneous lesions, and the IL-10 -819TT genotype is associated with lower levels of IL-10.2 IL-10 haplotypes (-1082A, -819T, and -592A) have been identified as risk factors in atopic asthma.3 We performed an association study of IL-10 promoter polymorphisms with the AIU phenotype.
