Full recovery still'far away'

The second quarter of 2020 was calamitous for the European replacement tire market,with double-digit sales declines the norm in most segments-figures issued by the European Tyre and Rubber Manufacturers'Association(ETRMA)show.In its quarterly review,ETRMA linked the"steep drop"to the Covid-19 pandemic and warned that the full-year outlook"remains bleak"with recovery unlikely any time soon.Indeed,demand for all tire types,including consumer,truck & bus,farm and two-wheeler tires,registered significant declines over both the second quarter and the first half of the year,For the three months to end of June,replacement passenger car/light vehicle tire sales fell 31%year-on-yearto 35 million units-registering an overall 22% decline for the first half to 83 million units.
